Nerius, Stahl and Spiegelburg lead the way
Bayer trio in top ten of athletics world
The athletics stronghold TSV Bayer 04 Leverkusen can once again boast an excellent finish in the 2008 world rankings. The stars from the Rhine lost some ground compared to the previous year but twelve Bayer athletes are still ranked among the best 30 in the world, three of them are even in the top ten.

European javelin champion Steffi Nerius (68,34m) is ranked the highest in fourth place. Her team-mate and javelin rival Linda Stahl (66.06m) is just behind her in fifth place. Elsewhere Silke Spiegelburg (4.70m) is ranked tenth in the pole vault. Bayer’s strongest disciplines are the men pole vault and the women’s javelin where three athletes made the top 30 in both disciplines.

Women: Pole vault: 10. Silke Spiegelburg 4.70m; Javelin: 4. Steffi Nerius 68.34m, 5. Linda Stahl 66.06m, 21. Katharina Molitor 61.74m; Heptathlon: 11. Jennifer Oeser 6436 points.
