Nine Bayer athletes travel to India
Leverkusen with largest contingency in German team
The TSV Bayer 04 Leverkusen disabled sports department can once again boast the largest contingency for the upcoming world athletics championships. A total of nine Bayer athletes will make the trip to India. Germany will be presented by 19 athletes in Bangalore. In addition, Bayer coaches Steffi Nerius and Karl-Heinz Düe were invited to join the party for the IWAS World Games will take place from 22 November to 2 December.Mathias Mester (picture) will be hoping to repeat his performance in Taipeh two years ago when he won gold medals in the javelin, shot put and discus. Elsewhere, Kathrin Green, Astrid Höfte, Heinrich Popow (all 100 m, 200 m, long jump) and Michaela Floeth (shot put, discus) are also rating among the favourites to win a medal.
TSV Bayer 04 will also be represented by experienced athletes Jörg Frischmann and Frank Tinnemeier (both shot put) along with David Behre (100 m, 200 m) and Markus Rehm (100 m, 200 m, long jump) who will make their world championship debut. “It is an unusual timing for such a major event but we still want our athletes to perform well. We will look at the performances more than the medals,” admitted Frischmann, head of the disabled sports department.
