Second in Lausanne
Steffi Nerius stays true to herself
Steffi Nerius once again managed to beat her Offenburg-based German rival Christina Obergföll at the Super Grand-Prix-Meeting in Lausanne, Switzerland. The TSV Bayer 04 Leverkusen athlete finished second overall with an attempt of 64.47 metres and was only beaten by Olympic silver medalist Mariya Abakumova (Russia; 66.09m).”Everyone was a bit stiff. The final punch was missing but I still managed to stay true to myself,” said Nerius. Obergföll finished third with world champion Barbora Spotakova (Czech Republic; 62.24m) coming in fourth. U23 European champion Linda Stahl finished in fifth place with an attempt of 61.90 metres. Katharina Molitor, who finished eighth at the Olympics, rounded off a good display for Bayer by finishing seventh (58.43m).
In addition, the athletes collected important points for the world final which will be held in Stuttgart on 13 and 14 September. Presently, it looks as if all four German athletes will be involved. Nerius added 16 points to her total. In the current World Athletics Tour standings she is second with 43 points. Obergföll is first with 51 points. Stahl is in fourth on 38 points (10 points in Lausanne), Molitor added six points.
