TSV Bayer 04 Leverkusen
Judo
In 1960 the wrestling section was enriched by a discipline imported from Japan: judo. The open translation of the term is "smooth way" or "superiority through giving way". The aim is to make use of the power and energy that is brought before you by your opposite by taking it in and transfering it into positive energy of ones own. There are no dangerous techniques in judo. The beginner starts by learning first the right way of falling onto the floor, later throwing, jamming and fixing techniques are on the agenda. In times when statutes allow the unlimited employment of foreign judo athletes the judo section of the TSV swims against the stream. Consequent Promotion of young talents is the foremost aim of the TSV. It is about to lay its own basis for top athletes. All successes of the past years seem to verify the usefulness of this strategy: all teams reached better results in 1997 than in the year before. Today the judo section almost counts 426 members.
