Medals and Achievements

Willi Holdorf (middle)
There are many notable landmarks and famous athletes in the history of sport at Bayer. As a result of outstanding achievements on the national and international sporting stage, individual athletes have become household names.

Names like Heide Rosendahl, Olympic gold medallist in both the long jump and the 4 x 100 metres relay in Munich in 1972, Willi Holdorf, winner of the decathlon at the Tokyo Olympics in 1964, Ulrike Meyfarth, Olympic high-jump champion in Munich in 1972 and Los Angeles in 1984, fencer Arnd Schmitt, who claimed gold medals in Seoul in 1988 and Barcelona in 1992, Dieter Baumann, Olympic 5,000 metres champion in Barcelona in 1992, high-jump gold medallist Heike Henkel and rower Stephan Volkert, who won gold in the quadruple sculls in Barcelona in 1992 and in Atlanta in 1996, are all closely linked with Bayer.

At the "Paralympics" (the Olympic games for the disabled) participants from Bayer clubs regularly make a major contribution to the achievements of the German team with a large squad. The most successful sportswoman ever at the Paralympics is Britta Siegers of TSV Bayer 04 Leverkusen, who won 5 golds medals, 2 silvers and 1 bronze in various swimming events in Barcelona 1992.
Heide Ecker-Rosendahl
Athletes wearing the Bayer cross have collected a total of 60 Olympic medals, have won almost two hundred World-Championship medals and over one hundred European-Championship titles, and have stood on the winner's podium at German national championships on countless occasions.
